Submit

Submissions are free -- we want to welcome as many new and existing poets and artists as we can. To send us your work (poetry and art), please email us at thefieldguidemag@gmail.com, or click the Submit button below. Submissions are rolling. We publish online and print annually in the Spring (between March - May. See our homepage for the upcoming issue).

When sending us work, please include a short (4 - 6 sentence) bio about yourself as a poet or artist (or both!).

We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere (for the sake of the other publisher). Send all submissions as attachments (.doc and .docx for poetry, .jpg and .pdf for art).

Response time is between 3 - 6 months. Please wait up to 6 months before inquiring about your work. Please do not submit again until after you hear back from us.

We accept poetry in all its forms, as long as it is honest, humble, and strong. We especially love poetry that reads like small stories or snapshots in time.

We do not accept work with erotic themes, violence or foul language. Children have access to our magazine so we want to keep it PG. We also do not accept poetry that is simply a description of strong feelings -- emotions have ties to the physical, and we want to see what triggered your emotional landscape.

So much of the art we see is about romantic or powerful love, and although we will consider work with these ideas, we prefer to read something fresh, unique, and striking.

We accept original and previously published work, though only unpublished, unsolicited work will appear in print. Please give credit to the original publisher (even if it is social media or yourself).

Poets and artists retain rights to their work published online, but Field Guide must receive first publisher credit if the work is published elsewhere. We will inquire about this before printing your work. Once printed, you will still retain the rights to your work, but Field Guide will have first publication rights.
